So, we had two pirates again this year! They loved the costumes that Grammie made last year so much that we couldn't get them to take them off for weeks this year. Halloween was a warm night and clear, so there were lots of kids out in the neighborhood. The boys tricked and treated until they were absolutely worn out! By the end they were asking me to carry their candy jack-o-lanterns! We're still eating candy all the time, but hopefully the Sweets Fairy will come soon! ;-) The picture below was taken by the folks who own our local coffee shop... they were handing out whole Hersheys' bars and hot chocolate! --D
Cheers to 2007! Jen and I sayed up and watched the ball drop last night and had a bit (too much) of the bubbly. We're looking forward to an exciting January. Jen is starting her photography class this week; I'm going snowboarding this week (only my second time -- so, it should be painful!!); Sam is back in school and Charlie... well, we're just trying to keep Charlie out of trouble, which you know is a full time job. I've gotta run... Sam wants to play Uno! Here's a few quick photos from the XMAS trip! Cheers! --Dave
We had a break in the rain yesterday, so we headed out to the Woodland Park Zoo.
Sam took a lot of pictures, including this first shot of a peacock.
The orangutans were great. Check out this male orangutan with the large cheek pads. And, since it wasn't feeding time, Sam seemed not to have any problems with them (unlike the last visit to the Louisville Zoo).
We also saw the giraffes, hippos, elephants, monkeys, gorillas, orangutans, wolfs, penguins, eagle, hawks, falcons, and the tapirs.
There were a bunch of creatures we didn't get to see, but we bought an annual membership, so we should be able to check them all out before too long.
I think the boys' favorite part was using the map to locate the animals.
There's also an interesting story about why we ended up at the zoo in the first place: Charlie has been asking to go to the zoo just about every day for a month. We have no idea why he started asking, but, man was he PERSISTENT! Anyway, they both really seemed to have a ball, and I'm sure we'll have many more zoomania posts in the future.
We hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving this week! We'll be missing you all on turkey day.
Cheers!

Well, it was a rainy and lazy indoor day around here. Charlie seems to be coming down with a cold too, so that kept us pretty low key. Lots of chocolate milk and board games and Legos. I snapped the above picture while the boys were in the middle of a Curious George marathon.
We've officially hit the rainy season here. It should continue to rain a bunch until the end of the year. But we have the holidays and our trip to Kentucky to look forward too. And after that we'll be getting some snow up in Snoqualmie Pass, so knowing that should make the rainy days more tolerable.

It was a chilly Halloween up here on Beacon Hill -- about 34 degrees at dusk -- but the pirates were up to the challenge.
Three yo-ho-ho's for Grammie who did some fine work on those costumes. We picked up the hats and swords the night before at the Red Light up on Capital Hill -- a very fun shop. Sam and Charlie wanted to try on every hat in the place (about 200); we wish we had the camera on hand for that one. We came home that same night to carve up some jack-o-lanterns. Sam drew the faces - one "mean" and one "happy."
Back to Halloween night... We headed out for tricks and treats at 6 PM and headed up and down the Hill. Anticipating lots of walking, Charlie got to ride in the wagon. It was a hoot watching him climb in that thing, ride 25 yards to the next house, and then literally throw himself out of it to try to race to the next doorbell.
We eventually teamed up with the Irwin boys up on 12th, where most of the candy action was. There were lots of other ghosts and goblins about with their amused parents. It was great to see so many families from our part of the hill. Everyone was having a good time, but the parents were pretty cold.
Charlie kept calling his bucket, "my punkin' patch!" He lost his sword somewhere along the way, but never even noticed.
After about an hour, Sam wanted me to carry his bucket for him! Um, no way son, that's not how it works!
We ended up haunting both sides of 4 blocks before we got cold and headed for home at 7:20 with very full buckets. Other parents were still at it (and were jealous of our early departure).
Upon arrival back at the mother ship, eating insued. Four chocolate bars for Sam, and Charlie dove right in on the RAISINS!? We've still got lots of candy lying around this place...
